The 2020 Spring VIII Series
When rowing seasons were cut short, we heard from coaches, student athletes and parents alike that continuing training as a team was of the utmost importance. Introducing the 2020 Spring VIII Series—a new virtual team challenge that allows athletes to compete as a crew of eight from the comfort of their own homes. We're hoping this challenge helps athletes to connect to their teams and coaches in an uncertain time.
While this challenge may not replace the thrill of on water racing, it does require similar teamwork to complete. So (virtually) grab teammates or club members and start a team! The series runs for five weeks starting April 6.
In the Spring VIII Series, crews compete in "boats" of eight. Team captains create one or more boats and choose their teammates. Each week, there is a different workout. Athletes just need to enter a verified result for each week in their individual Online Logbooks before the entry deadline. Captains must also submit their final boat selection by the entry deadline. All eight individual results count for the boat. Boats do not have to take part in every round, but there is an overall leaderboard for those who do.
Athletes may attempt the workout as many times as they care to within the given time period and the fastest one will be automatically chosen.
